Who it's for
Is Kybella right for you?
Kybella treats one specific thing extremely well: submental fat: the fullness under the chin that diet and exercise famously ignore, because it's genetic more than behavioral. It is not a skin tightener and not a jawline builder; if your profile concern is loose skin or a recessed chin, Kybella would dissolve fat you may actually want, and we'll say so and point you to the right tool instead.
- Fullness under the chin that survives every diet
- A profile that reads heavier than the rest of you
- Good skin bounce-back (skin retracts as fat clears)
- A permanent fix, without surgery or liposuction
How Kybella works & what to expect
Consult & pinch. We assess what’s actually under your chin (fat, skin or structure) and confirm Kybella treats yours.
Treat. A grid of small injections under the chin after numbing: 30 to 40 minutes, most of it prep.
Clear. Your body processes the dissolved fat over 4–6 weeks per session. Most plans run 2–6 sessions, four to six weeks apart.
What to know
Kybella risks, downtime & aftercare
The swelling is real and we say so upfront: the treated area swells noticeably for several days (patients call it the bullfrog week), then settles as the fat clears. Numbness under the chin for a few weeks is common and resolves. Temporary nerve-related smile asymmetry is uncommon and self-resolving; permanent issues are rare with proper injection technique, which is why the anatomy marking matters. We review your history first.
How Kybella works, and why it’s permanent
Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule your own digestion uses to break down fat. Injected into submental fat, it destroys the fat cells themselves, and your body clears them over the following weeks. Destroyed fat cells don't regenerate: adults have a fixed number, which is why the result is permanent in a way creams, cool-sculpting cycles and diets aren't. Significant future weight gain can enlarge remaining cells, but the treated ones are gone.
The swelling week: what to expect
Here's what patients most wish they'd known: for roughly a week after each session, the area under your chin will be visibly swollen. That's the treatment working, not going wrong. Plan sessions away from big events, budget a scarf or a high collar if you're self-conscious, and know that each successive session usually swells less. We'd rather you book Kybella knowing this than discover it Thursday before a wedding.
Pricing
How pricing works for Kybella
Kybella is priced per vial, and the variables are how much fat is being treated and across how many sessions: small pockets clear in two, fuller chins take four to six. Your plan and its exact price are set at your complimentary consultation, after the pinch test tells us what we're actually treating.
We also offer several ways to spread treatment costs over time, including buy-now-pay-later plans. Ask about financing at your consultation.
Common questions
Kybella FAQs
Is Kybella really permanent?
The fat cells it destroys are gone for good. Adults don’t grow new ones. Major weight gain can enlarge the remaining cells, but the treated fullness doesn’t rebuild itself. It’s the closest thing to liposuction results without surgery.
How bad is the swelling really?
Noticeable for most of a week per session. Patients joke about the bullfrog phase, and we’d rather you hear it from us. It settles progressively, later sessions swell less, and the trade is a permanent result.
How many sessions will I need?
Two to six for most chins, spaced four to six weeks apart so each round clears before the next. The pinch assessment at your consult gives you a real number, not a range.
Kybella or liposuction?
Chin liposuction removes more fat in one surgical step; Kybella gets there gradually with no incisions, no anesthesia and no surgical recovery. For moderate fullness, Kybella usually wins the trade; for large volume, we’ll say so and discuss referral.
Will my skin sag once the fat is gone?
Skin with decent elasticity retracts as the fat clears, and there’s evidence the treatment process itself encourages mild tightening. If your skin quality suggests otherwise, we’ll flag it at the consult and talk through combining or substituting treatments.
